Ginkel just mowed them down in the 8th innings with sinkers. smh

Those pitches were well placed. Hard for anyone to hit that stuff.Looked like they were thinking about tomorrow's tee time.
Feast or famine with this team. It's been that way for years now. The kicker is that Arizona doesn't even have great pitching. The Phillies just tense up and swing at garbage trying to hit homers.Hard to believe the Phillies have outscored Arizona 30-21 in the series at this point.
Looked unbeatable a week or so ago. That's baseball though. Unpredictable. Was hoping they could turn at least some attention away from the Ohio State debacle. Oh well, not to be. Sorry guys, but they did have a heck of a season.Bottom of the 9th:
Sewald in to pitch for the DBacks
Casty flies out to RF
Marsh hits it almost to the warning track in LF but it's a fly out
Jake Cave pinch hits, with 2 outs. And he flies out to RF
DBacks win, 4-2.
Hard to believe. I still think the Phightins have a better team, but they didn't produce in games 6 and 7, so the results are what they are.
A great season for the Phightins comes up a win short of the World Series.
As for Topper not removing Ranger when Carroll was at bat for the 3rd time:
Yet another way baseball is broken.Assuming D-backs win this will be the second year in a row that the lowest seed in the NL goes to the WS. Phillies last year with 87 regular season wins and D-backs this year with just 84. Hard to believe.
if it's any consolation, this Phillies team was not going to win the World Series this year. a win tonight would have only delayed the inevitable. it was a fun run and season. they gave us hope after what seemed like a pretty "meh" August. it's nice having October baseball.Looked unbeatable a week or so ago. Need to spend more $…oops, already doing that!I'm calling this one, gang. It was a solid season, but this roster continues to be deeply flawed. Dombrowski needs to rethink it.

Until I started following the Phils more closely the last two years, I had forgotten what this was like given the Pirates situation. Post season baseball can be excruciating, but it sure is entertaining. In any case it's a great sport. Good luck next year.if it's any consolation, this Phillies team was not going to win the World Series this year. a win tonight would have only delayed the inevitable. it was a fun run and season. they gave us hope after what seemed like a pretty "meh" August. it's nice having October baseball.
Epic choke job by Kimbrel ……his devastatingly poor performance rescued Zona.Key to this series was Arizona getting back to what they called 'Diamondbacks baseball' -- stealing bases, hitting the other way, working counts, 2-strike approaches, etc. That's what got them on this run to the LCS. I think they were dumbstruck and intimidated by the Bank and the stage in the first 2 games and almost tried to match Philly dinger for dinger. Once they got back to AZ, they could relax and get back to what they needed to do so that when they went back to Philly, it wasn't as big of a deal.
As for the Phillies, a team built on scoring with dingers only just isn't going to fly in the playoffs. We saw how Houston petered out in their last 2 games. My Twins ran into the same problem. The playoffs are about starting pitching, stringing together key hits, and closers. Kimbrel should be rightfully skewered for his performances in 3 & 4 and that's an absolute killer because you need your closer to be stable, especially in these bullpen-happy times. Phillies just didn't have any shutdown arms in the pen after Kimbrel got rocked.
It would be great if they could trade Nick and resign Hoskins. Move Harper back to RF and keep Hoskins at first?I normally trust Thomson but I question the plan. He knew and had already decided before the game if he was going to use Wheeler. I agreed 100% with Pedro that the best move was to bring Wheeler in behind Ranger unless Ranger was going to be pulled very early.
I much would have preferred Wheeler in with the lead then bringing him in when you’re behind. Bringing him in would have likely guaranteed that the Snakes counter with their back end early as well since AZ wasn’t going to let a game get away and have wasted those guys on their bench. I think you wasted the big advantage that Wheeler provided by using him when you’re behind.
When you are down and you start to squeeze the bat really hard the later the game goes, it’s really tough. The Phillies did nothing with the Snakes back end and them hitting against those guys when behind and you’re down to x outs left makes it that much harder.
A lot of questions to now face. Nola, Rhys, the composition and roles in the pen, etc. If I were the Phillies, I’d consider trading Nick since he’s coming off a productive year. He disappears when he’s going bad and you’re faced with a guy who simply swings through everything when he isn’t going well. It was fun though, it just needed to last another week.
And……. They lost tooHey, Flyers are up after 2 vs Vegas!
Great news about Fonzie! That is some balm for this wounded Phillies fan.A brutal week with Franklinstein’s game plan, the Eagles losing, Da’s Bears winning and the Phillies choking away the series.
The only good news is Fonzie has survived his vet visit and his subsequent ER clinic visit and seems to be back to his normal happy self.
FOR THE RECORD FOR THOSE THAT DON’T KNOW: Despite being ILLINOISLION I was born in Philly and have always been a monster Phillies / Eagle / PSU fan.
Why not? Texas is far from invincible.if it's any consolation, this Phillies team was not going to win the World Series this year. a win tonight would have only delayed the inevitable. it was a fun run and season. they gave us hope after what seemed like a pretty "meh" August. it's nice having October baseball.
