Hey Franklin haters, is a playoff game a big game? Win or go home. Elimination. Season ends.

I know fun right? People are so f ing serious which makes me laugh. For example, I think 3-17 in real games is a terrible record, but it’s just my opinion. Others may find 3-17 v big boys a ok. Boom, 45 second exchange of opinion, on to the next
This post begs the question, if you actually believed what you wrote, why would my opinions bother you to the point where they'd make you question your board participation?

You read this site? Some folks here care more about a stadium name or statue than actually winning. This site in particular may have the oldest group around and just last week one was bragging about how he won't give money just because Franklin is there. PSU's fanbase is disjointed and some care more about Franklin failing than PSU winning. PSU doesn't pay to compete against tOSU, UM, UGa, Oregon, and some others, but somehow some of the fans have that expectation because of 1986. It's odd, but I don't think PSU has had a loss outside of a top 5 team in 2 years and you have "fans" acting like PSU is a 6-6 team.

one can care about winning and other aspects like the stadium or statue. They are not mutually exclusive.

so what suggestion to better unite different generations of the fan base? Brow beat them on a message board? Parade the they hate Franklin strawmen?

tell the boomers why they should invest in a program that refuses to recognize the life time they already invested? You see, they were contributing and building this program when you were in diapers. Maybe they don’t want to be part of the “culture problem” Penn State says they created and won’t refute.

On Christmas Eve, why do you seemingly hate another board participant?

It’s so unseasonal and non- Christian.

The Lord, who happens to have a birthday tomorrow, desires you to do better.

I can't believe this purposely divisive thread has garnered 216+ responses.

I'm thinking of going over to the old board to resurrect the MOAT.
I generally think it's not ok to let people gatekeep on being a fan, or inventing silly and arbitrary criteria to determine who gets to critique something.

Anyone can be a fan. This is how easy it is: "I like X." And that's it. That's the only qualification.

Some of us prefer a bit more in depth discussion and analysis, and part of that is criticism. People need to have it explained to them that this criticism isn't coming from a place of hatred because they obviously cannot figure this out for themselves.

The face of the Statue movement sold his suite to SMU fans last weekend. Bet Joe would have loved that.

Gee I’m not a carpenter but I can pound a nail - I am not saying I am a coach but I can spot mistakes once in a while and even coaches will admit errors now and again.
Unfortunately for many on here, coaches aren’t pounding a nail, they’re building a house. They make hundreds of decisions in a game and they’re going to make so called mistakes when fans judge the decisions after the fact. And just because you watch a game doesn’t mean you’re qualified to spot mistakes….just decisions you might not agree with….that doesn’t make them mistakes.

Very well reasoned and rationale commentary.... are you sure you belong here? :ROFLMAO:

Old timers will recall that through 1994 we were in the natty mix pretty much every 4 years since the late 1960s

After the 1982 national championship, people were by and large happy with that

I feel blessed to have been in college in 1986....what a season, especially after the disappointment of losing to those steroid boys from Norman, OK the year before
Not getting to the playoffs for Franklin is considered not in the mix, so how is not getting to the top 2 for Paterno considered in the mix?

Ah, yes. After your argument has been annihilated, then pivot to, "I wasn't trying to make a real argument!" then repeat your feeble insult because you know you look foolish.

Man, you're bad at this.

My dad didn't get paid for coaching my LIttle League team, but he was still the coach. A lot of coaches at the pre-HS level are unpaid volunteers. They're still coaches, as any player or parent will tell you.

I think that the problem is you're attempting to establish an absurd standard for which people are "allowed" to level criticism.

Just because someone isn't a paid professional in a particular vocation doesn't mean they don't possess expert-level knowledge of that subject.
Yes because Joe the drywaller certainly has more knowledge than a D-1 football coach.

@laKavosiey-st lion doesn't provide "criticism" ... he's just an ignorant child spouting off the same antagonistic mantras over and over again in an attempt to look cool.

And he also thinks it's OK to toss the n-word at folks, so eff that guy. He's loathsome, at his core.

Is anyone a Franklin hater?

Yes.

This seems to be a misinterpretation of valid criticisms.

No.

I think everyone wants to see CJF and this program succeed.

False.

Some of us are looking at hard data points regarding outcomes vs quality opponents and observing a less-than-encouraging trend. That’s not “hating” it’s analysis based on empirical evidence.

It's cherry-picking and misinterpretation of data to further a preconceived bias (at best).

It's quite acceptable to state that his record is poor against a certain subgroup of teams. Because that's what it is. But when doing so, you need to also compare that to the record of others. And otherwise put it into proper context.

And if you then take that information, and use it to constantly berate his overall performance, and downplay any success he does have, and to overlook the positives, and to try to paint everything in the light most negative, and just keep repeating it in a condescending way ... well, then you can eat a bag of d's.

And there are a number of people who do this.

And, then, when called on it, you act like you're not doing what you're doing, trying to play innocent ... well, then, you're just trash.
