Nobody now that he is locked up and has a high buyout, but every year prior he had suitors.....FSU, USC....etc. The fact that some think nobody would want him is pretty crazy, but then again people make things up like the letter-men all want him gone as does Kraft.
Were they really? I think his agent etc.. did some nice work in getting Sandy to think some of these teams were more interested in him than they really were, especially on the heels of the covid yr and the following one. He certainly wasn't trending in the right direction at that time.

Yeah, it was this one loss, that’s it. Support him forever.
Not forever, but probably for the rest of my natural life. Went to my 1st PSU game 1966. For me it's been a great experience. Raised my sons to love the Nittany Lions, now my little granddaughter is dressed in PSU gear. I care way too much about a team that I only live thru vicariously. My high school coach was on Joe's staff for many years and my college coach played there. For better or worse, I'll always follow PSU football. I try to be realistic. Franklin's win % mirrors PSU all time win %.
PSU is an 8 -15 type program with a year here and there + or-. I understand hope springs eternal...but it shouldn't make accepting reality difficult.

Yeah really. It wasn’t hidden. PSU writers knew about it and were confirming it at the time.

Not nearly as good a job as Tuck's agent or Jimbo's....perhaps Lincoln Riley's. The best might be Matt Rhule. I like Matt...but he may be the highest compensated coach all time per victory. Coaches are/were getting big $$$ because it's there for the taking. When NIL and revenue sharing settles in coaching salaries may trend down like MLB managers have. Why would I care how much money they make anyway?

I'm sure we'd win it all with some coach who works cheap- maybe just get some kid from McDonalds who "really knows football" because he's watched a lot of it.

If James went elsewhere it's a cinch it would merely be a different name in the cross hairs after a loss.
Check that...and even after some wins. I wish Manny would leave so fanboys could get back to blaming Franklin for all 3 phases of the game.... and let's not forget his contract.

At least one that would welcome input from the BWICAC. It's a veritable gold mine of football knowledge.

One week and nine pages, yet I fear that Franklin will be on the sidelines for PSU today against iu.

People in this thread continually say "yeah, but only these 4 teams have competed for titles, so most can't and we should be happy." But each of those teams that are competing was willing to risk what it took to get there. Bama went and got Saban. Georgia fired a very Franklinesque coach to hire Smart. Ohio State went and got Urban Meyer. The schools dominating that national title market didn't trip and fall into it. They determined good wasn't good enough, and they went for it. Of course it can go wrong when you do that, but just accepting Mark Richt means you'll never have more than Mark Richt. And those teams competing for titles decided they didn't want to just be Mark Richt, or James Franklin.
But 9 of the top football schools have had 32 coaching changes since the implementation of the CFP system and not one of them has won a NC….and many are worse off than they were.

Lol, well then it must have been true. Pretty sure SC and FSU are happy with what they have. Franklin is not an awful coach, but I personally wish he would have left, but it is what it is, wish for the best currently.

We deserve better.

We FIRE. FRANKLIN. o_O .

Let the powers that be make the next hire. That‘s why they get paid the big bucks.

I’m doing my job. What’s Franklin‘s excuse?
Meeting with his agent, monitoring his investments and lounging around the pool. He does stroll thru campus though, my grand neice ran into him and they had a brief conversation. (My neice has known him since childhood. )

On the grand scale I agree with you. I just hate the idea that beating Ohio State will have to be a fluke because we just can’t play with them and are always out coached against them. I didn’t mind it so much when it was Urban Meyer because I think he is in the handful of greatest college coaches of all time. I don’t like it at all when it’s Ryan Day.
That said, I felt similarly in regards to Joe against Kirk Ferentz and Lloyd Carr. Drove me crazy that those guys would know exactly what to expect from Penn State and we would just play right into their hands.
I don’t necessarily want to fire Franklin. I’ve just lowered my expectations and kind of sadly, I’m alright with that.

There’s nothing wrong with this perspective. Nor anything wrong with defending Franklin to the death, nor wanting a new coach. The issue is one group thinking their fandom is the only way and all others are wrong. You know who these guys are. The never let you forget it.

I would love to beat them too. I was frosted. But I stayed away from here, took a deep breath and let emotions settle down. It's hard to deny they recruit better and it's not like PSU was favored. OSU is historically a better program. It's okay, reluctantly for a mature adult to admit it.
Being where PSU'S been is annoying. But I'm reserving outrage until I see Texas AM under performing. Franklin on average has his squad 7-15. I don't see evidence that "we deserve better."

I think folks misinterpret thinking it's silly to sling crap at a coach who does a pretty good job of beating most teams with the exception of playoff quality teams, with " defending him to the death." To argue with fans that wish to fire a coach that won 11 games including the Rose Bowl last year. If PSU loses to Maryland, Rutgers and a bowl game, I would better understand the histrionics.

Histrionics is gleefully chanting ‘nine more years!’ no matter what the game result. Anyway….

Hey I’m 4th generation Penn State, my avatar pic is my grandmother’s 1939 graduation day. I’ll never stop rooting either. But while our historical win % may be the same, our opportunities to win a title are not. You could believe Joe’s teams could beat anybody on any given Saturday because of coaching. You can’t believe Franklin can beat anyone when it matters most. The sample size is large enough to know that now. So of course I’ll cheer today and hope they win as much as any other day, but that doesn’t mean I also can’t accept the reality that this program has a definite ceiling with Franklin. And yes I’ll meaninglessly ***** about that, because I’m a fan. None of us are actually impacting anything, so whether we’re cheering or bitching, it’s all meaningless. I still enjoy it.

Wow, ok live in your alternate reality. This wasn’t just last year. Every PSU paywall site was all over this, but yeah I’m making it up. Typical in todays world, call it fake and move on like it wasn’t real.

Funny that you bring up agents. Tucker's is Neil Cornrich who renegotiated O'Brien's contract with PSU and gave him free exit to bolt to the NFL. Riley's is Trace Armstrong who is Franklin's former agent. Li'l Jimbo's is Jimmy Sexton, Franklin's current agent.

Like I said earlier...the guy is a d-bag. He even admitted to me he is a regular contributor to the retard....excuse me.... Test Board on that other site. Dude is a radicalized nut! Last week he had on a "Q" hoodie. But I will say "9 More Years" just to piss him off!
